Airports Company South Africa SOC Ltd (the Group) owns and operates South Africa’s nine principal airports, including three international gateways; O.R. Tambo, Cape Town and King Shaka International Airports. 

1. Fire Fighter 1 – Grade B4 (Upington)

An exciting opportunity exists at Upington International Airport for a dedicated fire fighter within the SHERQ division.

Key Performance Outputs

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Supervisor Fire and Rescue and will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Maintain operational readiness including vehicles, equipment and infrastructure to comply with Airport category. 
  • Operate Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment and Tools.
  • Ensure understanding of vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance and report defects.
  • Adhere to statutory regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures and Service Level Agreements to ensure business continuity.
  • Activate and respond to all relevant incidents and accidents within area of jurisdiction, scope of training and expertise.
  • Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Analyse, monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance.
  • Conduct Runway, Taxi-way and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC and take remedial action if necessary.
  • Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal and external relationships.
  • Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.
  • Respond to all medical emergencies within area of scope and training.
  • Record and capture information for billing purposes.
  • Participate in Fire and Safety awareness programmes.

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such, will be required:

  • The candidate must be in possession of Matric (Grade 12) qualification
  • Valid code B driver’s licence with driving experience
  • Fire Fighter 1 qualification
  • Hazmat Awareness qualification.
  • BAA/ First Aid 3
  • Appointment will be subject to applicant passing Level “A” physical fitness test.

2. Fire Fighter 1-Patterson Grade B4 (Chief Dawid Stuurman, King Phalo and King Shaka Airports)

An exciting vacancy exists at Chief Dawid Stuurman, King Phalo and King Shaka Airports for experienced Fire Fighter 1

Key Performance Output

The successful candidates, reporting to the Supervisor Fire and Rescue will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain operational readiness of resources including vehicle, equipment and infrastructure to comply with Airport category.
  • Ensure understanding of vehicle and/or equipment and limitations to ensure utilisation within design parameters.
  • Adhere to relevant statutory/legislative regulations, SOP’s, operational standards, ACSA policies and procedures, employee manual and Service Level Agreements/MOU to ensure business continuity.
  • Activate and respond to all relevant incidents and accidents within area of jurisdiction, scope of training and expertise.
  • Conduct emergency standbys to prevent incidents and accidents as requested.
  • Analyse, Monitor, identify, mitigate and report areas of non-compliance (HIRA). Conduct Runway, Taxi-way and Apron inspections and patrols to reduce potential hazards, notify ATC and take remedial action if necessary.
  • Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial actions where required to ensure achievement of organisational goals and enhance emergency response preparedness.
  • Record and capture information for billing purposes. (Flight Information Display screens real-time).
  • Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.
  • Maintain level of physical fitness as per ACSA policies and procedures.
  • Attend mandatory Aviation training as per ACSA policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Perform the same duties and functions in line with the requirements for an Aircraft Marshaller.
  • Respond to all medical emergencies within area of jurisdiction and scope of training.

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such will be required:

  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
  • SAESI Fire Fire Fighter 1
  • SAESI Hazmat Awareness
  • HPCSA BAA/ First Aid Level 3
  • ACSA Training Academy Aircraft Construction
  • ACSA Training Academy PARTAC
  • ACSA Training Academy Control & Watchroom
  • ACSA Training Academy Runway Inspection
  • ACSA Training Academy Aircraft Marshalling
