Black Friday 2022 has arrived in South Africa, with retailers big and small offering great deals on products and services – online and in-store.

The Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman noted that Black Friday 2021 was one of the biggest shopping days of the year, with an estimated R5 billion spent by shoppers across the country.

Data from payment gateway PayFast showed that online spending over Black Friday 2021 increased by 34%, and the average basket price was R1,208/transaction. This looks likely to increase this year as many consumers will want to avoid the in-store rush on Black Friday.

PayFast has launched an online dashboard to track live stats of Black Friday in South Africa, which should provide interesting insights into the purchasing habits and the levels of craze around the deals.

While many stores have been running deals all week or even all month, retailers typically save their biggest sales for the big day itself.

Game, which has proved to be one of the most popular searches for Black Friday, will be kicking things off with midnight openings at select stores and will keep its specials contained to one day only. OneDayOnly, meanwhile, is tipping the deal scales to 100% off on select sales throughout the day.

Whether you’re looking to buy essentials from your favourite retailer, want to get a jump on Christmas shopping, or are simply looking for a great bargain, we have you covered.

BusinessTech has compiled a list of over 60 retailers who will be fighting for eyes on their wares this year – and broke them down by broad sector (and alphabetically).

From homeware and fashion to tech and DIY, there’s something for everyone.

Before you head off on a shopping spree, be sure to check whether you’re in the financial position to splurge this year, and also beware of the many scams that crop up this time of year.

Finally, make sure you’re up to date with your rights as a consumer, so you can make sure you’re covered for returns, refunds and other aspects protected by the Consumer Protections Act.

THE END.
