VBKOM UNDERGRADUATE BURSARY PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG SOUTH AFRICAN YOUTHS (In Grade 12 or Matriculated but not studying yet)

VBKOM Undergraduate Bursary Programme for young South African Youths who are in Grade 12 or those who are already Matriculated but not studying yet.

VBKOM has a strong interest in students who intend to pursue/ are pursuing undergraduate degrees, honors degrees or BTech diplomas in the following fields:

  • Mining Engineering
  • Physical Metallurgy/Materials Science
  • Geology (majoring in Mineralogy, Petrology, Applied Geology or Economic Geology)
  • Project Management
  • Industrial Engineering

Unfortunately, VBKOM does not provide bursaries to students studying towards their National Diplomas.

Bursary Requirements

  • In Grade 12 currently or already matriculated but not studying yet: Minimum of Level 5 / 60% / C symbol in Mathematics HG / Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy), Physical Science and English, having taken these subjects in Grade 10-12 and having achieved a minimum of Level 5 / 60%/ C symbol in these subjects.
  • At University currently: Studying towards any of the above-mentioned degrees with an overall average of 60% and no failed courses or subjects
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must meet the University entry requirements and be accepted at a recognized South African University for full-time studies.

What the bursary covers

  1. Full payment of registration, tuition
  2. The bursary is awarded for the length of the prescribed course provided that the bursar passes the registered subjects and still complies with the VBKOM bursary contract.

Bursary obligations

A year-for-year service obligation to VBKOM upon graduating, i.e. the bursar needs to work one year at VBKOM for every academic year (or part thereof) that the bursar is supported.

Vacation work at VBKOM may be required at the end of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd years of study

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Certified copy of proof of identity (ID or passport)
  • In Grade 12 currently or already Matriculated but not studying yet: Certified copies of final Grade 10 and 11 reports and most recent Grade 12 school report. (Optional but recommended: Certified proof of registration or acceptance at a recognized university)
  • At University currently: Certified copies of Matric certificate and official university transcript/certificates/registration
