Role description

This is a 12-month fixed term employment opportunity, funded via the YES programme for unemployed South African youth to gain practical work experience. Successful Metallurgy Intern will work Monday to Friday at a fast-paced leading scientific and technology research organisation in Pretoria.

The successful Metallurgy Intern will have the opportunity to put his/her academic qualifications into action in a workplace setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist to develop and manufacture metal items and structures that range from tiny precision-made compone.
Able to work with a range of metals including copper, precious metals, iron, steel, zinc and aluminium alloys.nts to huge engineering parts.
Providing technical advice about the suitability of metals for different purposes.

Making recommendations and advising about product feasibility.
Assist in developing prototypes and innovative solutions to problems.

Role requirement

Who should apply?

Applicants must be able to satisfy the programme’s basic eligibility criteria to qualify:

South African Citizen, first-time participant in the YES programme.
Currently unemployed.

Must have Matric and a degree / masters in Metallurgical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or applied science.
Attention to detail to interpret design requirements and produce reports.
Numeracy skills.
