Position Overview

American International school of Johannesburg seeks to recruit an experienced nightshift cleaners to join their team on a Fixed Term Contract. Successful candidate should ensure that the school buildings are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. Buildings include but not limited to, classrooms, laboratories, offices, and communal areas such as stairs, corridors, and sports centre.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 is essential
  • Basic cleaning certificate is a bonus
  • Cleaning experience within a school environment is desirable
  • Experience of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning equipment.
  • Knowledge of Manual Handling and general Health and Safety legislation.
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Honest and respectful manner
  • Flexible approach to work

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure buildings are maintained and cleaned to meet the required standard
  • Perform daily routine and detail cleaning of campus building interior and exterior areas assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a cost effective and competent manner.
  • Effective communication with all internal and external customers
  • Carry out visual inspection on all machinery and equipment prior to use.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and the use of Personal Protective Equipment where appropriate
  • Ensure visibility of slippery and other warning notices when carrying out cleaning operations
  • Be aware of Emergency Procedures
  • Adhere to cleaning colour coding at all time
  • Be aware of risk Assessments associated with activities.
  • Manage workload accordingly to avoid unnecessary extended hours
  • Show a solid understanding of customer needs, seeks out customer input to better understand needs, and develops ideas to meet those needs.
  • Follow through on commitments, despite time pressures or obstacles, and maintains relevant communication with customers until job is completed.
  • Provide feedback and healthy dialogue on performance and operational issues,
  • Adapts easily to changes and adheres to decided actions. 
  • Successful candidate will be expected to assist in other duties within the department at times of heavy workload, sickness, and staff absences.

Working Hours

  • Dayshift – 07:00a.m. – 16:00 p.m.
  • Nightshift – 14:30p.m. – 22:30 p.m. (Nightshift will be required to stay at the campus accommodation)
