The Programme Manager:

  • Responsible for overseeing the implementation of appropriate programme and project management tools and systems which will be used to drive the tracking, monitoring, and measuring of the performance of various projects in order to improve project.
  • Implementation processes, business performance and operational excellence.
  • Align the programme to strategies and standards -Provide a strategic administrative/oversight support to the Programme Director, informing the programme team of strategy and policy changes and ensuring that they have access to strategic, policy and procedure information.
  • Align work plans across programme -Work closely with the Programme Director, Workstream Leaders, Project Managers and Project Administrators to coordinate and support the set-up and effective management of the Programme.
  • Provide governance oversight & Health Checks -Responsible for overseeing the implementation of appropriate programme and project management tools and systems (e.g. PLP) which will be used to drive the tracking, monitoring, and measuring of the performance of various projects in order to improve project implementation processes, business performance and operational excellence & conduct checks to assess levels of compliance to the governance framework.
  • Implement timely programme controls & track deliverables against plan -including monitoring programme status by centrally tracking the Key Performance Indicators & Strategic Performance Objectives to ensure progress towards completion, required procedural steps are completed and timely, interested groups and individuals are informed of progress and programme outputs are appropriate, modify the programme plan and coordinates changes with relevant stakeholders as necessary in response to unforeseen changes/ unexpected.
  • Developments as per the Programme Director’s instructions and suggestions.
  • Develop processes for consolidated reporting – Responsible for the production and updating of program me/project management dashboards for all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective flow of information between team members/ participants with regard to programme/project activities and their progress.
  • Programme interdependencies -Identify and maintain the dependencies and critical path amongst projects within the programme and other business change initiatives to ensure that there are not overlaps in their responsibilities and over demand/shortages in available resources.
  • Monitor all decisions, and issues -consolidate all projects risks and issues and compile risk document for the Programme Director to enable him/her to develop mitigation statements and remedial actions to ensure that programme is not negatively impacted.
  • Facilitate and support programme and project relations and integration within the programme by being an active thought partner, mediator and facilitator.
  • Create and maintain programme filing, archiving and versioning to adhere to company configuration & documentation management policy.
  • Manage the KZNLH Governance Plan through facilitating the KZNLH internal & external Mancos and Steercos including the Navy & Provincial.
  • Conduct the administrative duties for all governance committees through development of agendas, recording and distributing minutes to members and documents archive.
  • Coordinates and integrates the planning and execution of a group (cluster) of related projects, each at varying stages of inception and / or completion.
  • Oversees the implementation of appropriate programme management tools and systems to drive the tracking, monitoring, and measuring of performance.
  • Deputises for the Programme Director in respect of the Programme Cluster to ensure successful delivery of the benefits and/or new capabilities.

Position outputs:

  • Support programme execution by facilitating and integrating projects (and other work) within the cluster, ensuring alignment and the successful delivery of new capability.
  • Support the Programme Director in the identification, measurement, tracking and reporting of cluster related benefits.
  • Proactively monitor cluster progress, identifying issues and initiating corrective action
  • Proactively identify, monitor, and treat cluster risks.
  • Ensure that cluster outputs meet programme requirements in line with the programme and project/programme dossier on quality, time, and budget.
  • Initiate activities and other management interventions wherever applicable in the cluster.
  • Ensure the efficient allocation of resources and skills within the cluster.
  • Produce and maintain an integrated view of overall cluster performance and progress.
  • Produce and maintain an integrated view of the cluster to provide a single source of information for the cluster.
  • Identify and align the dependencies and critical path within the cluster.
  • Facilitate and support programme and project relations and integration within the programme by being an active thought partner, mediator, and facilitator.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to cluster health checks and programme level gate reviews and audits.

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3-year degree in a management-related discipline (eg. B. Com, B.Tech , B.Eng, LL.B) plus post-graduate studies to Masters level
  • Recognised Programme Management qualification is required, such as MSP/PMI/PgMP or evidence to enlist for and enquire one. Would be added as an advantage.
  • At least 8 years senior management experience of business and operational planning
  • At least 3 years of successfully leading programme / project teams in a major capital investment environment
  • Championing change, motivating results

Working Conditions /Inherent Requirements of the Job

  • Code 8 drivers licence.
  • Regular domestic travel.
  • Regular engagement with Programme Director, Portfolio Director and with internal and external stakeholders
