Position Purpose:
Provide professional architectural services, planning, designs and overseeing of projects designed for clients, considering efficient and cost effective management, public safety, and the provision of services.
Position outputs:
Planning and Design
- Review the needs of the clients and evaluate the project feasibility, identification and definition of scope of work.
- Carry out site assessments and develop a feasibility report for the project
- Facilitate and/or obtain land surveys and assessments
- Present and expedite the approval of preliminary (sketches) and detailed designs
- Obtain the client’s authority for and submit plans and documents for approval
Technical advice
- Provide technical advice on projects to Development/Project managers and Project Implementation Managers on various technical issues as-and-when required
- Undertake technical research on selected projects as directed by the Line Manager
- Assist in establishing a Quality Management System for building projects
- Undertake technical research on selected projects or technical subjects as directed by the Line Manager
- Review and comment on architectural designs of selected projects done by external consultants as advised by the Line Manager
- Attend design and consultants’ meetings on selected projects implemented by external consultants as directed by the Line Manager
- Maintain Professional accreditation in order to safeguard integrity of technical advice. Tender documentation and procurement
- Prepare specifications for the works
- Prepare documentation for procurement with input from other professionals
- Assist during tenderers’ briefing meetings and site inspections
- Assist in the preparation of contract documentation. Construction monitoring
- Ensure that all building permits are in place before works commence by facilitating and following up on approvals from relevant entities
- Visit the site to inspect the works for conformity to the specifications at agreed intervals
- Attend regular technical and progress meetings as scheduled
- Initiate and/or check sub-contract design and documentation as appropriate
- Manage environmental impact of the projects
- Approve materials to be used on site (within architectural nature) and ensure that they are within the financial budgets
- Approve works executed on site at different stages of the project
- Prepare and issue variation orders on building works after consultation with the client
- Evaluate progress on performance of contractors on site
- Assess, approve work completion and issue certificate of practical completion
- Assist the client to obtain occupation certificate
- Assess and approve final completion of project and issue certificate of final completion
- Assist in preparation of the project closure report
- Prepare and submit as-built-drawings
Management of Personnel
- Motivate staff through effective management of performance contracts and implementation of personal development plans.
- Propose changes to department structure, where necessary, to improve the department’s performance.
- Develop the succession plans for key positions in the department.
- Promote staff placements that support the organisation Equity Plan.
- Monitor the implementation of individual development plans.
Principal consulting
- Negotiate and conclude terms of the client/professional services agreement with the client.
- Prepare and ensure that all relevant contracts are signed before handing over the site to the contractor.
- Advise on other specialist services required
- Lead and coordinate the design process, including consultation with local and statutory authorities
- Prepare and present consolidated project program in consultation with other professional disciplines
- Coordinate technical documentation with the professional team
- Organise and lead tenderers’ briefing meetings and site inspections
- Participate in the evaluation of tenders
- Administer the building contract with the appointed contractor
- Prepare and make project presentations to Clients and/or relevant stakeholders.
- Arrange for site-handover to the contractor and issue construction documentation
- Manage performance of project professional team
- Prepare a project closure report
- Manage overall project budget having regard to economic, natural and social factors affecting the project
Qualifications & Experience:
- Honours BSc Architect degree or equivalent
- Relevant professional registration
- Minimum 5 years’ experience within the Architect Environment,
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Project and software programs such as AutoCAD, Revit and/or related.
Competencies:

- Knowledge of architect related regulations, building construction, building systems and site requirements
- Keep abreast of new technologies and procedures, including interacting with professional councils, boards and organisations
