Apply for the 2024 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) was established in terms of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Act 56 of 1999).

The mission statement is made up of three distinct elements, which describe why NSFAS exists and the impact on the constituency:

  • NSFAS exists to provide financial aid to eligible students at TVET colleges and public universities;
  • NSFAS identifies eligible students, provides bursaries and collects past student loan repayments to replenish the funds available for future generations of students; and,
  • NSFAS supports access to, and success in, higher education and training for students from poor and working class families who would otherwise not be able to afford to study.

Application

The correct supporting documents are important in ensuring that NSFAS process your funding application in time for your registration at an institution of higher learning. Go through the list of required supporting documents below and ensure that you have all of them before you start with the application process.

All applicants must provide:

  • Valid South African ID number of Applicant.
  • Valid South African ID number of parent(s), guardian, or spouse.
  • Income information where applicable.

Students with disabilities must provide:

  • A completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form (available on the website)

Students- who has indicated no family members details must provide:

  • An applicant who has indicated that s/he has no family member details must complete the 2024 Declaration Form (available on the website)

Other documents that may be required, if applicable:

  • Retrenchment letter,
  • Death Certificate/s
  • Divorce Decree
  • Proof of legal guardianship
  • Marriage Certificate

NOTE: No Affidavits or copies of driver’s license will be accepted as proof of ID
