Can you swim 300-metre freestyle and under the age of 26? The South African National Defence Force Navy is on a recruitment drive for divers

The SANDF is currently searching for young South African divers. Do you have what it takes to be considered by the SANDF?

The SANDF is looking for young South Africans who can do the following:

  • swim from 300 meters freestyle swim
  • run 2.4-kilometers in under 13 minutes
  • do 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, and seven pull-ups
  • 25m under-water swim and 50m weight-belt swim
  • 50m snorkel swim, 50m swim with a diving mask full of water

If you have what it takes to join the South African Navy then this is your opportunity as the Navy embarks on a massive nationwide recruitment drive for fresh divers for its ranks.

IMPORTANT NOTE: That is if you are a South African citizen, aged between 18 and 22, and matriculated with pure mathematics. If older than 22 years, potential candidates should be in possession of a tertiary qualification but be not older than 26 years.

If you are interested, you should bring the following: bring swimming costumes and physical training attire (vest/T-shirt, shorts, and running shoes), to be used during the selection process (both water activities and physical activities). This is part of the 2024 Military Skills Development Skills Intake.

“Divers are integral to any missions and operations of the SA Navy and their invaluable functions include among others, underwater and coastal reconnaissance, search and rescue, clearance diving, demolitions and salvage operations,” explained SA Navy captain, Prince Tshabalala.
