REQUIREMENTS: Must have Grade 12 and N2 certificate or equivalent, Trade test certificate as a Fitter and Turner issued by an accredited institution. Must have at least four (4) years post qualification experience as an artisan, extensive experience in the machining of precision components like shafts, spindles, spindle nuts, spline shafts, bushes, leadscrews, nuts, sprockets, construction machinery and dam equipment’s. Knowledge to operate the following types of machines: several types of lathes, milling machines, boring and facing machine, shaper, slotting machines, drill sharpeners, radial arm drills, line boring machines, surface grinders, band saw, tunnel boring machines and cylinder block boring machines. Comprehensive knowledge of the manufacture and installation of hydraulic power packs and related components is necessary. Ability to read and interpret the engineering drawings. Must have a valid Code 8 driver’s licence.

DUTIES: The incumbents will be responsible to do all types of machining as necessary. The refurbishment of engine cylinder heads, valves, gate valves, sleeve valves. Machining of shafts, spline shafts, key shafts, gears, bushes, leadscrews, nuts, sprockets. Manufacture and install hydraulic power packs and related components. Maintenance on dam equipment. Responsible for training of apprentices allocated to the section. Supervision training or experience will be an added advantage.
