South African Table Grape Industry Bursary Programme for South Africans (SATI Bursary)

Bursaries are awarded annually to South African students, who demonstrate a keen desire to pursue careers in the table grape industry – or supporting industries. Preference will be given to land reform beneficiaries and their children.

Applications for the 2024 academic year are currently open and close on 15 September 2023.

The following study fields will be considered:

Viticulture
Horticultural Science
Plant Pathology
Entomology
Soil Science
Agricultural Economy

Application Criteria

Only South African citizens are eligible for bursary funding.
Individuals looking to pursue a career in the table grape industry and/or its value chain.
Studying fulltime or part-time at a registered tertiary academic institution in South Africa
Individuals who have achieved above average (minimum D) academic results.
Preference will be given to students going into their second year of study, or above.
The SATI bursary fund is open for application by any qualifying individual. Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged individuals, land reform beneficiaries and their children, farmworkers and their children, especially those already involved in the table grape industry. (Meeting the above requirements)
Postgraduate applications will be screened, assessed, and recommended by SATI’s Research Manager based on criteria including importance & priority to the industry. Applicants should therefore provide sufficient detail regarding the research project and supervisor to be considered.
The bursary opportunities are either full, partial, or work-back bursaries.

Required documentation for applications:

A fully completed application form (only applications completed on our website will be considered, incomplete forms will be disqualified)
Certified ID document (only South African citizens are eligible for bursary funding)
Proof of highest qualification/s and latest results obtained.
The commitment of a career or study mentor will assist your chances.
Proof of registration and/or acceptance at an accredited tertiary institution
Postgraduate applicants must provide a research proposal and acceptance thereof by researchers. Students who will be part of an industry related research project will receive preference.
Signed declaration of commitment from the career or study mentor.

Unless otherwise stated, the bursary fund will allow for a portion of, if not all, the following study-related costs:

Study fees
Study material
Accommodation
Living expenses including meals or groceries
Other expenses (to be specified and motivated)

Terms and Conditions

Bursary funding is subject to available budget and SATI CEO approval.
Each successful applicant will be required to sign a bursary agreement with SATI.
Bursaries will be re-evaluated each year based on academic performance.
SATI reserves the right not to award bursaries to applicants, without prior notice.
SATI reserves the right to disqualify incomplete application forms.
Certified supporting documents must be submitted with the completed application form for it to be deemed complete.
Any student receiving financial support during the academic year is expected to make satisfactory academic progress toward the applicable qualification. If not, SATI may suspend the student from receiving any further financial support. Failure on the part of the student to meet any of the required performance standards gives the Bursary Committee the right to immediately terminate this agreement and from the date the agreement is terminated, no further funds shall be paid to or on behalf of the student as a bursary.
Funded students will be required to submit academic progress reports to SATI every quarter.
Successful applicants are expected to complete their qualification within the disciplines as agreed with SATI.
Successful applicants who meet the requirements are awarded a conditional bursary, pending their final results of the previous academic year.
Applicants who have not received feedback from SATI by mid-January should consider their applications unsuccessful
