Pure Mathematics Lecturer Post at UCT’s Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is a large and dynamic department with over thirty permanent academic staff. We seek to make one new appointment in Pure Mathematics at the level of Lecturer. While we invite applications from all areas of Pure Mathematics, we are particularly interested in candidates who will complement or strengthen existing areas of research in the Department, which include Algebra, (Functional) Analysis, Category Theory, Cryptography, Differential Geometry, and Topology.

Requirements for the job:

A PhD in Pure Mathematics or related field, at the time of appointment,
A record of research that indicates strong potential in the field, including publications in peer reviewed journals and conference attendance, and,
Experience lecturing mathematics at undergraduate level, including evidence of effectiveness as a teacher.

Responsibilities include:

Teaching and developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mathematics (within and beyond the Faculty of Science).
Developing and pursuing an active research program, including supervising postgraduate students.
Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties.

The annual remuneration package, including benefits is R853 709.
